Why Key Life?

Why Key Life?

Key Life exists to communicate that the deepest message of the ministry of Jesus and the Bible is the radical grace of God to sinners and sufferers. Because life is hard for everyone, grace is for all of us. We believe the Bible reveals that this grace is amazing, scandalous, free, inexhaustible, mysterious, abundant, irresistible, costly, gratuitous, wondrous, overflowing and extravagant.

Put simply, grace means that because of what Jesus has done, God’s not mad at you.  In fact, he loves you: “God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us” (Romans 5:8).

We are all needy, sinful and helpless orphans birthed into a fallen world of darkness and death. But God, out of his compassion and love, came himself and made us sons and daughters by the sacrifice of Christ. Being adopted into the family of God is not about doing more or trying harder, it’s about being welcomed Home by God because of his abundant grace, free from the penalties of sin and never alone in your suffering. This is true freedom—you are secure because of Jesus’ overflowing and unending love.

It is one thing to discuss grace as a theological concept and quite another to experience the freedom and joy of grace itself. That’s why Key Life’s mission is to get you and those you love Home with radical freedom, infectious joy and surprising faithfulness to Christ as your crowning achievement.

Because of what Jesus has done, God will never be angry at you again. God’s wrath has been turned away from you and to Christ at the cross, and Christ’s perfect righteousness has been attributed to you (credited to your account). The apostle Paul explains that the benefits of faith in Christ are no condemnation and freedom:

“There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus” (Romans 8:1).

“For freedom Christ has set us free; stand firm therefore, and do not submit again to a yoke of slavery” (Galatians 5:1).

Embracing the fact that God isn’t mad at us sets us free to live joyful lives. As we love him and others because he first loved us, our joy is infectious. The one who is forgiven much loves much and love fulfills the law (Romans 13:8-10). Faithfulness from sinners and sufferers is always surprising. It’s a miracle.

Too many get that backwards. They work hard to be faithful in the hopes that it will lead to a life of joy and freedom. It just doesn’t work. In fact, the reason we’re so bad is that we’ve been trying so hard to be good. Yes, freedom can be dangerous, but the alternative is much worse.

Radical grace is what changes everything. It affects how you love, work, live, lead, marry, parent, evangelize, purchase and worship. The church has suffered under the heavy burden of “do more, try harder” religion too long and Key Life is here to proclaim that Jesus sets the captives free!

God certainly doesn’t need us, but for some reason he has seen to it that Key Life is still here and we’re still preaching grace (and having a blast doing it).
