Thomas Johnson was an American slave who longed for freedom and went on to become a missionary in Africa. Charles Spurgeon was an Englishman, one of the greatest preachers to ever live, and a slave to severe bouts of depression. It was the compassion born from their suffering that bridged the cultural, racial, and physical distance between them.
