It’s dangerous to worship at anybody’s altar but God’s.
I was once the pastor of the church attended by Richard Nixon and was called in some circles, the president’s pastor. One Sunday, President Nixon was rumored to be coming to our worship service and the place was packed.
When it became clear that he wasn’t going to show half the congregation got up and walked out. Before they got to the door I said, those who came to worship the president can leave now, he’s not here. Those who came to worship God, you can stay, he’s here.
I know. And I repented. But it did feel good when I said it. It’s dangerous to worship at anybody’s altar but God’s.
I’m Steve Brown. You think about that.
