Surprising Goodness

Almost everything of any importance is a side benefit of something else.

If you’re searching for happiness, for instance, you’re not going to find it.  But if you’re doing something else, sometimes happiness comes along.  Problem with most Christians is that we work too hard, suffer too much, obsess too often on being good.

In fact, the reason we’re so bad, is that we’re trying so hard to be good.  Obedience isn’t something you work hard at and achieve.  Why?  Because almost everything of any importance is a side benefit of something else. Goodness is a side benefit of being loved and loving God. And it’s almost always surprising.
