Cheap Grace
JUNE 8, 2023
Critics laugh and say, “Cheap grace! Cheap grace!” Well, if grace isn’t cheap, you can’t afford it.
In C.S. Lewis’ book, The Great Divorce, the ghost of a man is invited to move from hell to heaven.
He refused the offer and insisted on his rights. I’ve led a good life. I’m not asking for anybody’s charity, he said.
Don’t you understand, said the person inviting. Everything here is charity.
It really is, you know. That’s called grace and listen, it’s free. If it’s not, nobody has a prayer. They laugh and they say cheap grace, cheap grace. Let me tell you something. If it isn’t, you can’t afford it.
I’m Steve Brown. You think about that.
